New Ride from Orgimmar to Thunder bluff (5 years too late)

Blizzard announced a much anticipated change (kidding). There will now be a round-trip ride from Orgimmar to Thunder Bluff. This was a pain for any Tauren who start leveling in the Mulgore area, which contains Thunder Bluff to get to any of the quests out of Orgimmar. It was easily a 10-15 minute run (felt like 15 years) and a giant pain early on. And yeah, I’d do that damn run to Org then hearth back to my inn in Mulgore and not actually get the flight path making me have to do that run all over again.Exact words from Blizzard Below.

“The Zephyr is getting set to transport players between Orgrimmar and Thunder Bluff in an upcoming patch.”

GBU for Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth 2 (PC)

This is a oldie, if you consider 2006 old, but quite a goodie that was released for the PC but also the 360. Fresh off the Heels of the much beloved Peter Jackson films this one keeps to the world he helped make a live action reality. I only have time to write out the skirmish setting but the single player is equally as good (if not better).

Good: The Art style is pretty bang on amazing. For 2006 you get a spectactular resolution setting. 1400×950. I set it to as high as I could go and the units look pretty awesome. Almost like a toy figure you see in game stores. You are given multiple hero units with their own, if small in scope, abilities. There are 6 factions and almost all are pretty fairly balanced. Your gameplay really focus’s on the micro management of each battle. For example your opponent brings a bunch of archers, long swordsmen and a tank. You’ll need each of your basic defense units minus the tank. First send in your horsemen to take down the archers but you cant leave them in for too long to fight because the long swordsmen will mow them down. You then send in your ground unit to take out the long swordsmen. Don’t leave them in too long because the tank will destroy them.

Bad: This will almost be the exact opposite of what I just wrote with one minor caveat that i’ll get to after the graphics. Although the graphics are pretty awesome for a RTS there are some flaws with the shadow’s causing black blocks to appear randomly. When you move from what is your preset view mode you go into the dark and it just does not even look half as good. This is just like all the rts’s the warcraft franchise has given us. All your structures are basic, farm, fortress, stables, barracks. ANYONE who has played a RTS previously will be able to drop in easily with the one thing I mentioned earlier. The intricate fighting is fun, but if you are battling multiple opponents, managing it makes it not. You really need a few seconds to pull units in and move them out swiftly all the while 5 tanks are also hitting your keep, it’s annoying.

Ugly: My eyes hurt because I got so deeply involved in these battles. ? That’s all I could think of, ha ha.

GBU for Wolverine (XBOX360)

Not quite finished this game yet, but pretty far, I think I can give it a fair shake though. If anything changes my opinion by the end, I’ll update this accordingly.

The Good – Fast paced action of the hack-n-slash variety that’s easy to pick up. God of War like in it’s approach to gameplay, which is a good thing. Fun moves and combos with a leveling system that gets deeper as you go along. Graphics based on Unreal Engine 3, Wolvie himself looks slick, it captures Hugh Jackman perfectly. Wolverine’s healing effect from the X-Men movies are rendered here perfectly, as Wolvie is shot, blown up, etc…you’ll see his insides and adamantium covered bones in all sorts of random ways, then he regenerates(heals) right before your eyes, it’s jaw dropping the 1st time you see it. Environments from the jungles of Africa, to the Weapon X facility, etc, are huge and nicely detailed. Way gory, but in a way that makes sense, you’re a guy with indestructible claws on your hands for weapons fer cryin out loud. Stick this one in the stress reliever category for it’s mindless fun.

The Bad – Can get pretty repetitive, there’s plenty of moves at your disposal, but you’re not really challenged to try different things…so it’s up to you as to how deep the gameplay can get. Bosses….so far, they all seem to require the same strategy which gets tedious and, well, repetitive. Graphics don’t always have a spitshine, some things up close show some ugly jaginess, framerate will dip sometimes when there’s lots of things happening onscreen, screen tearing rears it’s ugly head sometimes too.

The Ugly – Overall, I think it’s really fun, but not worth 60$…I’d buy it for 40$, like it is on PC. That’s what’s ugly to me, this licensing fee on console games that smacks us poor consumers, grrrr `_´

What ever happened to Mike Tyson in Punchout?

The wonderkid and I talked about this a little on the podcast, or was it the after podcast party? Anyways, here’s what I found from wikipedia. Seems like convinent timing of all this to go down but if it’s written is it true!?!?!?!?!?!

Punch-Out!! featuring Mr. Dream

Towards the end of the NES’s run, Nintendo’s license to use Mike Tyson as a special Punch-Out!! character expired. Therefore, Nintendo replaced Tyson with a fictional character based on a then-Nintendo tournament champion, Mr. Dream. A popular myth is that Tyson was removed due to his divorce from actress Robin Givens[3], and his conviction for rape, which did not occur until a year after the changeover. It is also believed by some[who?] that because Tyson lost the Heavyweight Championship to James “Buster” Douglas by the contract expiration, Nintendo made no attempt to negotiate a new one with him.[citation needed] In August, 1990, the game was re-released simply as Punch-Out!! (or Punch-Out!! featuring Mr. Dream according to Nintendo Power) only in North America. This version has become the “official” incarnation of the NES Punch-Out!!

Madden 10 (milllllllllllion)

Kotaku posted some screens from the new madden ’10 game. I just have to say that I really dont care about this franchise anymore. That’s just me. I’ve been playing it for a LONG time and taking away features to bring it back does not denote new gameplay (looking square at the hall of fame players subtraction and addition). This is such a beat argument I’m going to save that for the guys who know their stuff better than myself. Just sayin’ k? The screens look great. Boy do I love this gen’s console graphics we still have a ways to go with the grass but, eve’s. Posting a screen of Carson Palmer of the Cincinnati Bengals because this is MY blog people.

Oh XBOX360, I luv U…sometimes you don’t love me back :’-(

The Xbox360, an incredible gaming platform….pretty sweet library, the best online system of any of the consoles…can make any hardcore gamer all warm and tingly inside.  But all is not milk and honey in that land, one of the biggest black eyes to any console ever, the red ring of death has crept up in many a gamer’s lives. Jamie and myself included, microsoft was good enough to extend the original 1yr. warranty to 3yrs, not bad. Ahh, there’s the rub….see, I’ve got my newer 360(with HDMI), and according to microsoft, newer 360s should be fine and reliable, which it has been, so no complaints. But I’ve got an older one that I keep for, ahem, playing some games earlier than most….this keeps me outta warranty, so when that older box eventually red ringed on me, I was able to fix it, more than once. Then I notice this creep up on the blogs a couple months back, something about an error 74….and finally, I get hit with it…some cats are able to get around it, seems most don’t. It’s related to the GPU and the scaler chip in the 360, from what I’ve gathered, one of the two went belly up in my machine… me, I’ve troubleshooted it much. So people’s, make sure your 360 is registered, if you have problems, take advantage of that warranty. Don’t let it discourage you from owning a great platform…I’m just a little depressed right now is all.

Im in ur xbox, stealin yer fun, muahahaha!

GBU for Operation Anchorage Fallout 3 DLC

Man, I steamrolled through this DLC. For better or worse. Here goes nothing.

Good: You cant really mess up fallout 3, at least for us so more of it is always nice to have. It’s a interesting take for an add-on and works well in the context of the game. The change of pace from dark to light land textures were needed. There is a good amount of “mountain” country which to me didn’t exist in fallout 3. It all felt flat apart from boulders. DC is not really known for that I guess. The addition of the Gauss Rifle is awesome, the weapon just flat out destroy’s things. It has a knockback effect that is so clutch when fighting the new enemies in game.

Bad: Not enough Quests, just the main chain and one side quest. Or did I miss it? I also thought there were not enough enemies around to get XP from. You don’t take your weapons in, this is a simulation, but it was hard to let go of all the awesome Power Armor I had, weapons and aid. You couldn’t do it any other way but, still, it stung a lil’.

Ugly: This should not be 10$. It should be 5$. We discuss this on the podcast.

How about you gimmie some of that power armor for my cataracts?

Next GTA IV DLC announced…via Twitter?!?

Them smoov cats at Kotaku threw this up earlier today, news of the 2nd piece of DLC that’s exclusive to the 360 version of GTA IV (for now anyway), via Twitter…’you know it’s a Twitter world when’…amirite?..:-) Details apparently coming soon, I for one can’t wait…if you follow the gaming exploits of Jamie and I, yall should know by now that I’m as gaga as a kid on christmas morning with anything GTA. Microsoft paid a cool 50 mil to Rockstar games for exclusivity on 2 expansions to the GTA IV universe, we got The Lost And Damned, which was awesome. Hopefully the next one will follow suit.

When's the new content coming, punk?

Mass Effect 2 teaser and Fallout 3 DLC DONE!

I stayed up very late last night to finish up the DLC for Fallout 3 so Rich and I could really jump into it. I can safely say without any shred of doubt that this game was the one we have been wanting to talk about for a LONG LONG time. So tonight we shall. I found a little Nuka Cola Quantum glitch but not really a glitch for those that have already gone through the game and don’t have the heart to do it again. Told you it was a slow news week.

The biggest thing is Bioware releasing the Mass Effect 2 trailer.

What has my interest peeked the most is the improvement in fighting. While there, and really interesting Mass Effect felt more like a movie than it did any kind of action RPG. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. What also is kind of blowing my mind is that if you killed off any characters from before, they will not be appearing in Mass Effect 2. I really want to see how that’s done. Sadly that will be done via other people because in my gameplay I tend to always good the “good” side and not kill bad people. This picture looks more like the type our Wonderkid would play though. 🙂

Slow news week

We’ve resorted to posting the NPD Group’s Video Game System sales numbers.

Nintendo DS – 1.04 million
Nintendo Wii – 340,000
Xbox 360 – 175,000
PlayStation 2 – 172,000
PlayStation 3 – 127,000
PlayStation Portable – 116,000

and the more utterly insane stats of top selling Games. Pokemon? Are you SERIOUS. What is this 98? C’mon now people.

Wii Fit (Nintendo) – 471,000 WTH?!!?!!
Pokemon Platinum Version (Nintendo, DS) – 433,000
Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo) – 210,000
Wii Play (Nintendo) – 170,000
The Godfather II (Electronic Arts, Xbox 360) – 155,000

Keyboard Cat Mp3

I’m going to tread really lightly with our Little Multimedia/Video Game Blog and Podcast hosting this Mp3. We don’t want any trouble. So this may disappear one day because we choose to delete it or our host WordPress comes down with the ban-hammer. There’s nothing can be done about that and we would gladly abide by their decision if they do. <3. I’m going to post the Mp3 we have of Play him off The keyboard cat. Use it for your ringtones or whatever. Much love goes out to the Originator of the Idea.

Star Wars Clone Wars Game

Worried we are.

Worried we are.

There’s a new Star Wars game coming out and no, it’s not Battlefront 3. It looks like it’s coming to all platforms too. So, at first glance from the video on their site it looks to be a more simplified version of Star Wars Force Unleashed. Is that a good thing? Problem be it may. Worried we are. hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Beatles Rock Band theme’s

Ok. So, Kotaku is reporting on more Beatles Rock Band themed instruments. I don’t know how far this can strech to other releases but I’m sure it will be tried. The beatles although utilizing many instruments were really the first ones to introduce these specific instruments to Mass Media. Rickenbackers especially. Paul’s Bass. The gretsch not so much, they’ve been around for FOREVER. Anyways, whatever. They retail for 99.99$, for a new plastic toy to fill up your living room. I’m still using my Rock Band one stuff. lol. 🙂

GBU for Little Big Planet (PS3)

Little Big Planet (Ps3)

Little Big Planet (PS3)

The Good – Fun, ol skool style, side scrolling platformer.  Oozes with so much charm that you’d think Nintendo was behind it. Huge variety in levels within the single player game, covering many themes and objectives. High level of quality in the graphics department, from the cuteness of your character(to which you can have him or her in many styles ) , to the wild and quirky feel of the levels. Co-op gameplay, when’s that ever bad? Huge online component in that you can create your own levels, or just get lost for hours playing the creations of others, there are some surprisingly high quality levels out there.

The Bad – While the gameplay is pretty easy, it’s not strictly 2D, there’s a 3 plane system(background, midground, foreground) that might confuse some at first. At times, controls can be a bit floaty leading to inaccurate jumps, if you’ve played enough Mario or Sonic games, you’ll know what I mean(about the missed jumps :-p). If you’re having internet troubles, the game can be laggy since it’s constantly online(probably keeping prepared for a buddy to join anytime.)

The Ugly – Whenever you have a game with user-generated content, what’s the 1st thing you’re gonna see? Levels and such featuring characters we already know….what’s ugly? Sony having to moderate and remove these due to copyright concerns. I know it’s legal mumbo jumbo that has to be, but it sux 😦

Fallout 3 DLC woes

I’m not going to do a “told you so” because that’s just mean, and I’m sure some people got it to work (looking square at our boy-wonder Rich). From what I’m understanding is that Achievements were buggy for Xbox360 users as well as a plethora of issues on the PC side. I’m sorry to hear this. Sucks. I hesitated given their past combined with my own extreme dose of back luck. Kotaku reports the DLC is fixed but it seems there’s some ridiculous steps to make get the Achievements. I’m going to see The Tragically Hip tonight in Philadelphia with about 50 other people so there will be very little game time prior to the podcast. We’ll get on that next week though. A whole weekend of gaming should be enough yeah?
