I spent a chill saturday afternoon taking care of the last of the Fallout 3 DLC(according to Bethesda, but again, they say never say never). If I gotta place this on a quality scale, here goes, best on top of course…
1. Broken Steel
2. Point Lookout
3. tie-The Pitt/Mothership Zeta
4. Operation Anchorage
…I played through it on the Xbox360, it’s also available on PC, and somewhere down the line it’ll be on the PS3…anyways, here’s my thoughts.
The Good – As usual, I’m happy with any DLC in the Fallout 3 universe that shows me some new surroundings, in this case, on board an alien spacecraft. You get to meet up with some new characters from different places in time that were abducted just like you. Audio logs strewn about the ship offer an interesting perspective on what your alien enemies really want, sometimes with hilarious results. You get access to a nice little group of alien weapons that are fairly powerful, and there’s plenty of drops on those as well. New aid items like alien biogel that can be modified so you’re patched up with 150HP(!), even better alien epoxy, repairs whatever weapon you have equipped(I haven’t tried it on earth weapons though). Some of the aliens offer a little challenge to take down, which is nice, especially when you’re at level 30. Some of the objectives are pretty cool and unique, like walking on the outside of the ship, and deathrays(!). You can return back to the ship anytime after you’re done, in case you wanna pick up whatever you left behind. Overall, if you’re a Fallout 3 crackhead like me, it’s worth having, taking my quality scale into account of course.
The Bad – The quest line is pretty linear…and a bit repetitive at times. As usual a bit short, it took me about 5 hrs, sure that’s not bad on the gameplay value scale, but on the Fallout 3 scale….maybe I’m just spoiled by the regular game :). There’s not much variety to the enemies, aliens, aliens with helmets, aliens with shields (ho hum).
The Ugly – The voice acting of the little girl you meet up with, she’s like a bad anime voice….you know, older person trying to sound young, that’s just weird to me.
Everyone wants power armor in Fallout 3. And by everyone I mean everyone with a brain. For those who don’t, well you’re just not RPing correctly. Ok. On top of it looking cool there are great bonus’s to energy weapon’s, damage resistance, rad resistance, str and charisma bonus’s. In game there are currently a few types of Power Armor. First though you’ll have to get the training to wear it. I got my power armor before Operation Anchorage came out which rewards you with the Winterized Power Armor. It comes with a whopping 10 million hp making it virtually impossible to have to repair it. By doing the Operation Anchorage route you’ll get the Power Armor Perk and wont have to do the normal chain to get it. Although the first way is part of the Main Quest chain. You’ll come across it anyways just your choice. I’ll take the easy route if it’s open.
The only caveat is you have to run through the anchorage sim without any power armor. That’s probably not too big of an issue though. If you do it the normal means (why are you reading this go buy Operation Anchorage already!), you’ll have to go through a series of quests on the main story line. It occurs after “waters” of life on this quest chain. Once you gain the ability to wear the power armor.
One doing that quest you’ll trigger a cool event that I wont name and you’ll start to see Enclave Soliders and their juicy Power Armor. Most will just be the Normal Enclave Armor, but some will have the Tesla Power armor with the electrical shoulders. Check it out!
The Hellfire Armor, the last of the enclave power armor appears in the Broken Steel xpac in abudance. There are also two more instances of getting the power armor in the game. One is in “The Pitt” DlC, purchaseable with 100 steel ignot’s to Everett on the side quest Mill Worker. If you are a quest and achievement junky like myself you can also find the T-51b armor through the quest “You gotta Shoot ‘Em in the head”
Hope that helps you in your quest to find the power armor! Feel free to send any questions into us and we’d be happy to share our thoughts! email@example.com
I stayed up very late last night to finish up the DLC for Fallout 3 so Rich and I could really jump into it. I can safely say without any shred of doubt that this game was the one we have been wanting to talk about for a LONG LONG time. So tonight we shall. I found a little Nuka Cola Quantum glitch but not really a glitch for those that have already gone through the game and don’t have the heart to do it again. Told you it was a slow news week.
The biggest thing is Bioware releasing the Mass Effect 2 trailer.
What has my interest peeked the most is the improvement in fighting. While there, and really interesting Mass Effect felt more like a movie than it did any kind of action RPG. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. What also is kind of blowing my mind is that if you killed off any characters from before, they will not be appearing in Mass Effect 2. I really want to see how that’s done. Sadly that will be done via other people because in my gameplay I tend to always good the “good” side and not kill bad people. This picture looks more like the type our Wonderkid would play though. 🙂
I’m not going to do a “told you so” because that’s just mean, and I’m sure some people got it to work (looking square at our boy-wonder Rich). From what I’m understanding is that Achievements were buggy for Xbox360 users as well as a plethora of issues on the PC side. I’m sorry to hear this. Sucks. I hesitated given their past combined with my own extreme dose of back luck. Kotaku reports the DLC is fixed but it seems there’s some ridiculous steps to make get the Achievements. I’m going to see The Tragically Hip tonight in Philadelphia with about 50 other people so there will be very little game time prior to the podcast. We’ll get on that next week though. A whole weekend of gaming should be enough yeah?
I had to use that word. Just had to. MMO-Champion reported on this but also the Wall Street Journal…? Slow news week? The9 lost their rights to World of Warcraft and are now doing something called WoF. It’s a link to something in China so Keylogger beware. Yes, we’re that paranoid here. I’m sure this is just some reach for press, I’d do it to if I were them however this decision has no bearing upon me or my fellow us based gamers but still, people need to make money. It’s probably the most gut wretching thing to have someone who propped you up with business pull out. Ouch.
1 More day of gaming till i’m back on the fallout 3 kick. Truth be told I might wait a day to see how the download goes considering how many problems they had with the Pitt. From Kotaku: the evidence. Just sayin’
*this post was intentionally done with all caps to emphasize the seriousness off aforementioned robots this message will delete in..3…2…1…..*
