Hit this right here. This’ll head you on over to the boys at joystiq.com. There you have a ton of hi res screens. In-game and concept shots depict all kinds of coolness. From new guns, enemies, levels…even updated looks to our regular characters(bearded Dom!). It’s all lookin pretty dope and Gears 3 couldn’t get here soon enough.
Joystiq reports on what everybody and they momma knew…that the GTAIV Episodes would eventually find their way to the PS3 and PC. Dropping on March 30th, the rest of GTAIV’s fans can enjoy these gems. Third party exclusivity has been so hazy this gaming generation…these were obviously a timed one for the 360. Either way, great news for GTA freaks everywhere.
As was the case with the 360 versions, gamers will be able to purchase the episodes separately as DLC for 20$ a pop. Or a disc with both for 40$.
For those that care that is…..by the looks of it, alot of you out there really do. Me, I always thought it was a cool option when it came to the 360, but as far as actually using it….meh…I prefer to BMI my stuff, or buy the BluRays. But on the real, it’s good to see it come to other platforms, and also gives us another cool thing to do on our expensive consoles. Some info from 1up….
“The service will arrive on the Sony console next month and will be free to PS3 owners who already subscribe to Netflix (or $8.99 a month for those who don’t) — and unlike on the Xbox 360, people will not be required to pay the equivalent of the yearly $50 Xbox Live Gold membership to access it.”
If you anybody keeps up on the big boy game blogs like we do, yall would know that the Tokyo Game Show is going on right now. And as usual there’s some big announcements, while we probably won’t be going nuts on it the way we did for E3, there’s some cool things worth mentioning.
–First, a special Final Fantasy XIII themed PS3 with a 250GB hard drive. Sure, the game is coming out for both the PS3 and Xbox360, but I think FF fans always associated the series with the Playstation brand, after FF7 of course. Shipping 12/17 in Japan, no word on if it’ll hit here stateside.
–Motion Controller updates. Looks like it’s coming Spring 2010. Not only new games will be utilizing the new tech, but a bunch of older games will be patched with motion control enhancements. Games like Little Big Planet and Resident Evil 5 for example. If handled right, I think this can be a cool peripheral. While not the be all end all interface it is on the Wii, which I never thought was a good idea(and with the amount of time we put into the Wii, proves that correct), it does make for a cool option once in awhile. Not only do you have physical feedback(something that worries me about Natal), but in combination with the Playstation camera(Eye), the interface knows where you are in 3D space. It could lead to some unique gaming experiences….now let’s hope the price is right.
Can I get a hell yeah?! Reading on joystiq, it was confirmed by Sony that the God Of War Collection will include a download voucher for the GoWIII demo they showed at E3, so Kratos’ Krackheads like myself will get a taste of the new sequel early. We reported on this a few podcasts back, it was only a rumor that the demo would come with the Collection disc, then shot down, covering their butts in case in couldn’t happen I guess, and now it’s back on for realz. Can’t wait to get the taste as well as play through the first two games again in HD glory. I almost fired up the PS2 recently, after gettin hyped watching Clash of the Gods on the History Channel, just to play my old copies. I think greek mythology is very cool, and the GoW games throw you right in the middle of these stories, so watching that program gave me the Kratos itch……but I think I can hold off till Nov. 10th, when the God Of War Collection ships. 🙂
I just read on joystiq, another 360 bundle is coming our way. Themed after the latest Call of Duty that’s coming soon, Modern Warfare 2, also shipping with a 250GB hard drive(!), 2 wireless controllers, and of course a copy of Modern Warfare 2, for $399. Maybe this is where that 250GB 360 rumor came from that we reported on many podcast moons ago. But it looks like Microsoft won’t be making that huge hard drive available separately anytime soon, they probably wanna gauge the demand, but since they’re screwing us on the 120gig’s price, I’d think it’s kinda hard to do that. Anyways, this awesome sounding limited edition package drops when the game does, 11/10/09, available for pre-order now.
As promised, I’m throwin up some more info on ODST’s multiplayer(now that we know more that is). Joystiq cleared the air, thanks to Bungie being at Gamescom this year. Here’s what the Bungie guys had to say “It’s all the multiplayer maps we released with Halo 3, then all of the DLC we’ve released since then, along with three new maps.” Halo 3 ODST will be 2 discs, the 1st being the single player campaign(holla), and the 2nd being the multiplayer component. Great idea if you ask me, I can’t wait, already got my copy on pre-order 🙂
Joystiq reported on a quote by Bethesda’s Todd Howard during a speech at Quakecon, “We are working on our next big game but we are not talking about it.” Don’t look for a new Elder Scrolls game in the near future; Howard said there are no current plans for an “Elder Scrolls 5.” As far as an Elder Scrolls based MMO, he said in jest, “There’s always a chance.” We’re huge Bethesda fans ’round these parts, especially of Oblivion(Elders Scrolls 4), but myself personally, am not big on the MMO persuasion….and if I were serious about getting into one, I’d probably be jumping on that WOW train, but that’s just me.
Problem is, we don’t know when yet. Joystiq and Kotaku reported that a patent has been unconvered that Sony filed, in which the PS3 can emulate the functions of the PS2 CPU. Hopefully this will be for full backwards-compatibility, and maybe throwing some of those PS2 classics on the PSN. We’ll let you know when we know more.
I told a friend right before E3 started that Nintendo might show off some new Wii colors to keep things fresh, my reasoning, while it’s still the number 1 selling console, it’s not ‘OMG I can’t find it in stores’ level anymore. We knew there was more than 1 color before the Wii launched, it was only a matter of time. I was slightly right, on August 1st they’ll be releasing a black Wii in Japan, with peripherals to match(nunchuck, classic controller pro). In addition they will also be getting a red DSi July 11th, no word yet on when these bad boys will hit the states or elsewhere.
Publisher Bethesda, who we heart very much, has finally showed off their latest offering, Brink. It’s a futuristic first person shooter with RPG elements, some parkour stuff, and an open ended mission structure. This bad boy sounds a bit complex, I 1st came across it on this joystiq post, then kotaku which they sum up as “think Team Fortress 2, Mirror’s Edge and Fallout 3”, but they go much more in-depth, so please check out their post on what could potentially be Bethesda’s next hit.
Looks like Sony also wants to bite into some of Nintendo’s casual market share, today announcing their answer to motion controlling, sorry no cool names like ‘Project Natal’ or dates or pricing, just tech demoing on the E3 floor. Sure their pack in controllers on the PS3 has some motion sensing with the six-axis technology, but it’s nowhere near as intuitive as Nintendo’s Wiimote, or what Microsoft’s upcoming Project Natal seems to be. Here’s a little description from the joystiq post on it “The PlayStation Controller will work in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye, which will capture movements of the motion controller for “true one-to-one tracking.” Sony showed off a variety of tech demos for use of the motion controller, including sword swinging fantasy, tank-based third-person shooting, archery, tennis and drawing — all of which are meant only to demonstrate what is possible with the motion controller and is not the final software for the new peripheral (Those looking for a PS Sports title, sorry).” Kotaku posted some news about it as well, check it out.
The Xbox360, an incredible gaming platform….pretty sweet library, the best online system of any of the consoles…can make any hardcore gamer all warm and tingly inside. But all is not milk and honey in that land, one of the biggest black eyes to any console ever, the red ring of death has crept up in many a gamer’s lives. Jamie and myself included, microsoft was good enough to extend the original 1yr. warranty to 3yrs, not bad. Ahh, there’s the rub….see, I’ve got my newer 360(with HDMI), and according to microsoft, newer 360s should be fine and reliable, which it has been, so no complaints. But I’ve got an older one that I keep for, ahem, playing some games earlier than most….this keeps me outta warranty, so when that older box eventually red ringed on me, I was able to fix it, more than once. Then I notice this creep up on the blogs a couple months back, something about an error 74….and finally, I get hit with it…some cats are able to get around it, seems most don’t. It’s related to the GPU and the scaler chip in the 360, from what I’ve gathered, one of the two went belly up in my machine…..trust me, I’ve troubleshooted it much. So people’s, make sure your 360 is registered, if you have problems, take advantage of that warranty. Don’t let it discourage you from owning a great platform…I’m just a little depressed right now is all.
Just seen on joystiq that there’s a Gears of War 2 map expansion disc(I’m assuming the disc part) coming out.*Edit*-Got too excited, sounds like there’s a disc and it’ll be on Xbox Live for 20bux on July 28th. Now I normally don’t care about these things cuz I rarely do the online multiplayer thing anymore, but this is what caught my eye, a deleted campaign chapter called “Road to Ruin.” The J-man and I have expressed our love for the Gears series many times on the cast, so I’m stoked to have more campaign love…..is that weird?…WHO CARES?!? GIMME MORE GEARS!! 🙂 Check out Marcus and Dom pimpin Theron outfits!
