I roll solo as rich prepares for world domination. The world domination meaning..domination of bunnies! I talk about our absence, games I’ve been playing and some ups and downs. Most notably Mass Effect 2, Lego Harry Potter and the PSP Then what games I’m looking forward to and such. Put on a 2nd set of socks for the 43podcact.
So, you have a office job. You work pretty hard for it. You spend some of your own time – not on the clock – to better yourself and the position. You go above and “beyond” in that sense. You take on overtime not for the money but for the betterment of everyone. You take on projects like writing blogs (FOR FREE) and extending your “outreach” and “profitability”. The side effect is you stop spending time on a blog you loved so much. Then the bad times come. Where you realize yet again that you are just a number. You are nothing. A Pittance in the great scheme of things. Maybe not viewed this way by others but by the ones who give you pay increases each year. And then you realize that it’s jus t not worth it sacrificing yourself. This is a situation that I’m sure many face.
So what do you do? Well. Here’s a soltuion! Write a blog in the morning! play games at night (NOT A FREAKING MMO), and write about the fun you had. Troll Kotaku and repost on your own site as if YOU TOO were a news site. I mean, who really cares about all that Anime RP Business over on Kotaku and who really wants to read that garbage anyways. They’re the Pitchfork of gaming! That’s about all I have to say about that jenny, this is a half assed solution anyways. I mean really, are you coming here for solutions to your gaming problems? I surely hope not!
So enough about other people, how about me. I’m currently settling in on a pretty awful cup of coffee at MY office job dreaming as I often do of Killing little things with large armies or staring down a scope and killing something that is ..well..little (1 pixel). Or spinning my wrists around with the wiimote. Richie has said he has Mario Galaxy 2 ready for me. But I dont have the neccesary toys to get it from him to my home. That’s my weekend dilemma.
So what are you normal gamers playing this weekend? What beefs are you having? Is work cutting into your game time?
Right off the bat, I didn’t play the first game. So I can’t really compare, just mention differences I’ve heard. And two, this is one of my favorite games of the year so far. How much so? 10/10
The Good – From what I’ve read/heard/etc., everything that was wrong with the first game, is fixed here. Very simply, I found this game to be a ton of fun. So much that after I exhausted the 360 version, I started on the PC version, and I’m enjoying it all over again. Ok ok, enough with the gushing. It’s a sci-fi action rpg.
In classic Bioware form, you create a character, choose a class, then fall into a story backed by a deep story, dialog system, and in this game, real time action that I’ve compared to a lite version of Gears of War. Third person shooter action with a cover system, plus powers that are cool, numerous, and of course upgradeable. There’s an insane amount of missions, most of which are fun, and with the dialog system, determines if you’re a nice guy or a hard ass. You usually roll around with a squad of 2 other characters, who also are bad ass gun wielders with awesome powers. This combo makes for some deep action, yet it’s simple to get into.
The guys you recruit are all interesting, have their own good story, and all bring something different to the table. The graphics are damn nice, they keep a smooth framerate almost all the time with some gorgeous detail too. Sound design and music are also up there. Good surround sound and mostly good voice acting. All that with the tight gameplay makes for an awesome, highly recommended package.
The Bad – One of the optional things you can do in the game, mining, can be a slow, boring, grinding process. More so on the 360, you scan a planet while moving a cursor(probe) across the surface trying to get minerals so you can upgrade ship parts, weapons, etc. It’s incredibly slow and boring, but you don’t have to do it. It’s just that the ship upgrades can significantly alter the outcome of the game. The scanning is alot better on the pc version, you don’t have to move a slow cursor with a stick, you spin the planet with your mouse the way you’d spin a globe, it’s much faster.
Towards the end of the game, where things get really hectic, the 360’s framerate stutters quite a bit.
The Ugly – How unexpectedly cracked out I got with this game….there were times where 2, 3, even 4 hrs. of time would pass by while playing.
More News from the Mass Effect 2 camp. There is a video of game play out on the innerweb’s. One thing that stands out is the, literal standing and fireing that is still present in the game. We don’t know what “mode” it’s on, this is probably easy to be honest. And that is present in most shooter games on the Easy mode. The part where the player shoots off the Mech’s leg and it keeps coming for Shepard is AWESOME. It appears the menu’s are the same so we can probably expect more of the same but a polished style and gameplay for Mass Effect 2 ala Halo 2. Enough of the chit-chat. Here’s the video of the Mass effect 2 gameplay!
There’s a trailer out today from the folks over at Bioware for Mass Effect 2 over on Game Trailers. Man how did I even pull that sentence off! It’s looking like this really getting finish is going to be our Christmas games, err “Holiday Season”,can I get a high five? So, is sheppard really dead? Like game trailers puts I can see him “switching” sides and becoming Geth but really a Clone while sheppard is held captive only to break free in the last half of the game and booyah. Win.
So…In the 5 minutes I’ve spent writing this write up, a video now appears on YouTube. Hilarious. Enjoy!
I stayed up very late last night to finish up the DLC for Fallout 3 so Rich and I could really jump into it. I can safely say without any shred of doubt that this game was the one we have been wanting to talk about for a LONG LONG time. So tonight we shall. I found a little Nuka Cola Quantum glitch but not really a glitch for those that have already gone through the game and don’t have the heart to do it again. Told you it was a slow news week.
The biggest thing is Bioware releasing the Mass Effect 2 trailer.
What has my interest peeked the most is the improvement in fighting. While there, and really interesting Mass Effect felt more like a movie than it did any kind of action RPG. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. What also is kind of blowing my mind is that if you killed off any characters from before, they will not be appearing in Mass Effect 2. I really want to see how that’s done. Sadly that will be done via other people because in my gameplay I tend to always good the “good” side and not kill bad people. This picture looks more like the type our Wonderkid would play though. 🙂
