GBU game review for Mothership Zeta [Fallout 3 DLC] (Xbox360)

I spent a chill saturday afternoon taking care of the last of the Fallout 3 DLC(according to Bethesda, but again, they say never say never). If I gotta place this on a quality scale, here goes, best on top of course…
1. Broken Steel
2. Point Lookout
3. tie-The Pitt/Mothership Zeta
4. Operation Anchorage
…I played through it on the Xbox360, it’s also available on PC, and somewhere down the line it’ll be on the PS3…anyways, here’s my thoughts.

The Good – As usual, I’m happy with any DLC in the Fallout 3 universe that shows me some new surroundings, in this case, on board an alien spacecraft. You get to meet up with some new characters from different places in time that were abducted just like you. Audio logs strewn about the ship offer an interesting perspective on what your alien enemies really want, sometimes with hilarious results. You get access to a nice little group of alien weapons that are fairly powerful, and there’s plenty of drops on those as well. New aid items like alien biogel that can be modified so you’re patched up with 150HP(!), even better alien epoxy, repairs whatever weapon you have equipped(I haven’t tried it on earth weapons though). Some of the aliens offer a little challenge to take down, which is nice, especially when you’re at level 30. Some of the objectives are pretty cool and unique, like walking on the outside of the ship, and deathrays(!). You can return back to the ship anytime after you’re done, in case you wanna pick up whatever you left behind. Overall, if you’re a Fallout 3 crackhead like me, it’s worth having, taking my quality scale into account of course.

The Bad – The quest line is pretty linear…and a bit repetitive at times. As usual a bit short, it took me about 5 hrs, sure that’s not bad on the gameplay value scale, but on the Fallout 3 scale….maybe I’m just spoiled by the regular game :). There’s not much variety to the enemies, aliens, aliens with helmets, aliens with shields (ho hum).

The Ugly – The voice acting of the little girl you meet up with, she’s like a bad anime voice….you know, older person trying to sound young, that’s just weird to me.

Fallout 3:Mothership Zeta Info!

MTV Multiplayer Blog has put up a mini interview with one of the main guys behind the latest DLC, Mothership Zeta. Here’s some deets!

“Mothership Zeta is full of the most high tech weaponry in the game. It includes a Shock Baton for melee fighters, multiple new firearms including an Alien Atomizer, a pistol, and the Alien Disintegrator, a new rifle. There’s also a new grenade type, a Cryo Grenade, which freezes enemies for a short period of time. On top of that there are new unique weapons, and a new heavy weapon.”

And some on it’s mission specific perk, “Xenotech Expert.”

“It increases the damage you do with alien weapons, including the Alien Blaster if the player had found that in the wasteland.”

No level cap increase though….it’s all good, I’m still messin with ‘Point Lookout’, there’s as much in the way of side quests as there are the main quest. Hopefully ‘Mothership Zeta’ will give me the same enjoyment. I’m confident that Bethesda will come through 🙂

I've come here to kick @$$ and chew bubblegum...

Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta

Bethesda’s dropping some of the details on the next DLC for Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta which is set for release August 3rd!!!

“Defy hostile alien abductors and fight your way off of the massive Mothership Zeta, orbiting Earth miles above the Capital Wasteland. Mothership Zeta takes Fallout 3 in an entirely new direction – outer space. Meet new characters and join with them in a desperate bid to escape the Aliens’ clutches. To do so, you’ll wield powerful new weapons, like the Alien Atomizer, Alien Disintegrator, and Drone Cannon, and deck yourself out in brand new outfits, like the Gemini-Era Spacesuit and even Samurai Armor.”
Some of the new features are listed below
* Find and exploit new and destructive alien technology, like the Alien Atomizer and Drone Cannon.
* Explore the vast Mothership and learn the secrets of the Aliens’ master plan.
* Thwart the Aliens’ attempt to stop your escape, and take over the Alien ship before it wreaks havoc on the unsuspecting Earth below.
* Fight against the Alien Invaders, their robot drones, and turn their own horrible experiments against them.
* Ally yourself with an unexpected array of characters, both from the Capital Wasteland and from Earth ’s past.

I cant help but think that they’re blowing through all the genre’s, aliens, zombies, simulations, apoloyptic stuff, where do they go next? Also can you imagine the size of the fallout 3 the complete edition of this game? It’s going to be MASSIVE. Sheesh. Totally on the Shivering Isle’s scale. And what’s up with the figures from Earths Past? You know they’re doing a alien jesus. They have to. Or Raptor jesus. Either works.

Podcast Fallout 3 Follow up talk

So our wonderkid Mr Rivera hasen’t been to the Alien Crash Site in fallout 3 yet. So i’m going to be nice and post it here! It’s west of the greener pastures disposal site and north of the MDPL Power Station. If you havent been to the green pastures disposal site to pick up the bobblehead – Agility. Do it. There’s no way to tell yet if this is part of the 5th DLC Mothership Zeta, but it’s possible! Bethesda alludes to it otherwise “In Mothership Zeta the aliens have returned and they are pissed. The mothership answers the distress call sent out by the alien ship at the Alien Crash Site and abducts the player, making the whole DLC take place on board of the alien ship”. I’m sure they’ll just work it into the story. Oh and fyi Point Lookout is the 4th dlc. Here’s a sweet picture of what looks to be some wetlands country!?

Dont mind the skellies
