…perusing the blogs I came across this interesting story on Kotaku. We’re big fans of the music genre persuasion round these parts(Rock Band/Guitar Hero). So I found it interesting, Mad Catz, third party manufacturer of usually reasonably priced, ok quality peripherals and such, could’ve got a taste of the Guitar Hero craze. The first game only came out on PS2, the sequel came out for that and the 360 as well, which is when I got into the insanity.
Mad Catz was apparently handling operations that would’ve brought Guitar Hero 1 to the 360, but Konami filed a lawsuit to all parties involved. I can only assume because they had a series from the PS1 days known as Guitar Freaks, another music game with a guitar controller but nowhere near as good as RB/GH. The guys at Mad Catz didn’t wanna deal with this, so they paid 300K to get out of their obligation to avoid headaches I guess. Looks like that Konami suit went away since it’s unheard of these days. Fast forward 5 years and the bucket tons of cash that Guitar Hero has raked in later…..and man….that’s gotta sting.
What used to cost like $190, then $160(I think), can be had for the cool price of $99 according to a Harmonix post on the Rock Band forums. This applies to the Xbox360 and PS3 versions of the bundles. You get the game, guitar controller, drums and mic. All wireless with version 2 improvements, such as the drums being velocity sensitive. Heck of a deal if you ask me.
As I sit here this morning, coffee in hand and attemping to find something of personal value to this blog I find N-O-T-H-I-N-G. More anime fandom posts from Kotaku? Yelch. Nope! Giant Bomb? Yeah, you’re great we cant cop anything else from you. 1up, you’re just a copy of Kotaku minus the anime fanboism. We used to be friends but not anymore. Heck I’m not even sure if rich and myself even listen to your podcast. Sorry Garnet Lee.
So what’s going on? It’s the “holiday season, yeah you know that season. The one that started the day after “Christmas”. I can say that I spent my weekend smoking some meat in the back yard (picture proof not posted) and made my own BBQ spice recipe. It turned out great. While waiting around I managed to sneak in some Killzone 2 and Beatles Rock Band. Killzone was a tad bit tricker as I got stuck on the ATAC. The hint was to shoot some wing things off (clearly I listened) I did. But not the right things/wings but not bing.com. After about 30 attempt this thing was just flat out destroying me everytime. I’d waste all my bullets and missles, it got so bad I’m shooting at it with the REVOLVER. ARGH. >.<
At that point I told myself, what the hell am I doing. Machine off. There’s no way I’ll have to stop the game on a MEDIUM setting. Am I really that out of practice on shooters? Yeah, I am. It’s ok but still. It’s like riding a bike right? So what do I do?
And I come up with this truly awful yet all too common video on youtube:
Anyways yeah. That’s really stinking easy. Shoot the blue lazors, hit with missle’s, and get trophy for beating it in under 1 minute 30. Check. Check. Check. So was this better than a anime cosplay jrpgINSANELOVE post on Kotaku? Yeah. Why do I even go there anymore?

Ok So in college I had a roomate. He went to LOTS of phish shows, played LOTS of phish ALL.DAY.LONG and did lots of things one doesn’t do when police and parental units are hanging around. Wilson was one of the songs he played and one I actually got into by phish. They are still on the whole a little too “noodly” for me but i’m glad to see them make an appearance and a much beloved song amongst phishheads. The other bigger, Coheed and Cambria, I find the guys voice unusual. At least rush could lay claim to being Canadian but this dude is from New York. Noones voice sounds like that on their own. And TV on the Radio, i was going to say they sound like MGMT or something “hip” and kind of “80’s” sounding. Whatever. Somebody likes them! I’ll step offa my soapbox. Here’s the list of the new DLC for Rock band on June 2nd.
“Shimmer & Shine” – Ben Harper and Restless 7
“A Favor House Atlantic” – Coheed and Cambria
“The Running Free” – Coheed and Cambria
“Wilson Live” – Phish
“Steady at the Wheel” – Shooter Jennings
“Wolf Like Me” – Tv on the Radio
Oh man this looks awesome. I’m a big beatles fan, who isen’t? But Beatles Rock Band looks pretty slick. We reported awhile back about the instruments/peripherial’s for Beatles Rock Band and now here’s the trailer straight from e3!
Any 80’s goth and industrial fans that also play games (are any of you still left?) should be happy. The placement of the zombies although awesome, because she’s not there is awesome and SO is tell her no, the mega ultramassive song, one that really defines the drug culture of the 60’s along with All along the Watchtower, time of the season, is not there. I’d gladly swap out Tell her No for Time of the Season. but that’s just me. *edit the boss reminded me of the fact that there is little guitar in time of the season and I agree it would be mega boring to play*.
Ministry “Cuz U R Next”
Ministry “The Great Satan”
The Zombies “She’s Not There”
The Zombies “Tell Her No”
The Cranberries “Linger”
(All tracks are original master recordings)
The Ministry tracks will be available for purchase as part of the “Ministry Pack 01” or as individual tracks for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 system. These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks only for Wii.

Ok. So, Kotaku is reporting on more Beatles Rock Band themed instruments. I don’t know how far this can strech to other releases but I’m sure it will be tried. The beatles although utilizing many instruments were really the first ones to introduce these specific instruments to Mass Media. Rickenbackers especially. Paul’s Bass. The gretsch not so much, they’ve been around for FOREVER. Anyways, whatever. They retail for 99.99$, for a new plastic toy to fill up your living room. I’m still using my Rock Band one stuff. lol. 🙂
We recorded the podcast last night, 5th one! Boom. That should be up later tonight. We talked about a lot of stuff and was a lot of fun as usual. We talked a little about Rock Band/Guitar hero’s track packs. I’d like to add something I was thinking about afterward’s. I’d see a Rock Band Track pack for my favorite of music. Brit-Pop. You heard it here first. This thing would sell like HOTCAKES in the rest of the world. Calling it. Right. Here. and. now. I’m going to go on the precedent set by AC/DC with Rock band already. Although Aerosmith’s Guitar Hero Pack released with 40+ songs on it. That would make this list a joke to complete. But still. I’ll keep it simple.
So without further adieu
In no order
The Brit-Rock-Rock Band track pack. (address royalities to me for this idea kk?)
